Familia con dos géneros, Gelsemium y Mostuea, y 11 especies. Habita en zonas tropicales y subtropicales, distribuida desde el sur de Estados Unidos de América hasta Brasil, este de Asia y Madagascar. En México y en la zona de estudio se reporta el género Gelsemium con una especie.
